* Why are there so many products needed to treat one problem
Dermaphend® is a treatment programme, which attacks eczema from the inside and
outside simultaneously. There are also different types and severities of eczema
requiring different protocols. Some may require the full treatment and others
only 1 product. It depends on the severity and available funds.
* What causes eczema?
People often get confused between the causes and the triggers. The most common
cause of eczema is an imbalance in colon flora. This is especially true for
infants. Other factors are medication (hypertension, antibiotics, cortisone)
food allergies or intolerances, all of which affect or are the result of an
imbalance in colon flora. Stress is not a cause but a trigger.
A sure way to diagnose if your eczema is caused from a colon flora imbalance is
with a test called an indican test, which measures the amount of indols produced
by the liver. Not available in SA.
* What is the step by step action of eczema
When one eats or drinks, the food is initially digested by the stomach and then
passed onto the intestines / colon for further digestion and breakdown. This
process is carried out by the 2kg of bacteria that lives there. If there is in
incorrect balance then foods do not get broken down and “tagged” correctly and
when they enter the blood stream the result is an immune response called
agglutination. In other works they are targeted for destruction. These allergens
settle in the skins substructure trying to escape, but the immune system keeps
on attacking resulting in the symptoms of red, inflamed and itchy skin.
The severity varies from person to person due to differing tolerance levels or
thresholds.
* Why do doctors prescribe cortisone
Cortisone is the most powerful anti-inflammatory ever made and it’s function is
to suppress the immune system attacking the allergens. Due to this, the skin
settles down and clears, but the cortisone wears off and the immune system
starts to attack again. By this time more allergens have deposited themselves so
the flare up is more severe. This creates a cycle of cortisone abuse. The
recommended dose is 10 days per year. Overuse leads to thinning skin, suppressed
immune system, osteoporosis etc….
It’s a simple and cost effective treatment, but the eczema never goes away and
leaves the patient with other medical problems. (see pg 14)
* Why do people continue to use cortisone
Unfortunately people trust doctors emphatically. “Doctor knows best” Patients
are not told about the dangers of cortisone and while ignorance prevails
patients don’t question, as long as the itch goes.
It’s only many years later and the condition still has not cleared, that
patients start to try different approaches. Most patients that we treat have had
eczema 10-30 years. There is still no clear explanation why anyone would
continue with the same treatment/doctor for decades when there is clear evidence
that not only is it not helping but continues to create serious side effects.
* How long does the treatment take?
On average there should be a noticeable difference in two weeks, which will
progressively clear for a further 4 weeks. We have had cases of it clearing in
as little as three days and others that takes 2-3 months. Some people have no
changes for a couple of weeks and then a total clearing in 2 days. Everyone is
different and the treatment is reliant on removal of toxins as well as changes
within the body, so an exact time frame is difficult to pin point.
* What can I do if the treatment does not work
If after 2 months there is no visible difference then the final attack is the
Dermaphend® Antigen reduction diet. This diet focuses on eliminating specific
foods from the diet that cause an antigen/lectin response on the immune system.
We supply this diet free of charge via email.
* What’s the problem with petrochemicals, perfume and colourants.
People who suffer with skin sensitivities or problematic skins have a reaction
to these additives.
These are the chemicals most commonly found and should be avoided
